Buying glasses for your kid can be a challenge for parents. There are many styles and brands to choose from at an optical store like Lens Crafters but too many choices can sometimes be overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you choose the right pair of glasses for your child:
1. Frame Material
Buy a frame made of high quality materials and hardware. In the past, children’s eyewear were mostly made of cheap light plastic material. Now, there are many kids glasses on the market made of higher quality material that even rival materials used to make adult glasses. At Sons + Daughters, our frames are made with two types of quality materials to choose from. We have a selection of refined Italian cellulose acetate frames which are strong and lightweight or our more sturdy frames made of TR-90 plastic material, another very durable yet flexible material that’s great for rambunctious kids on the playground.
2. The Fit
Choose a frame that is the right for shape of your child’s face. For children with round faces opt for a more square frame, and for children with square faces opt for a round frame. Make sure the bridge fits snug but not too tight, same goes for the temples. The piece around the ear should also be considered. If your child has sensitive ears there are silicon pieces that can be added to cushion the frame arm. Pressure on the temples can cause headaches down the line.
3. Eyewear Straps

If you’re worried about your child losing their glasses on the playground consider adding sunglass straps and eyeglass chains to the glasses. They aren’t just for grandparents anymore and work great on kids too! The eyewear retainer allows kids to freely hang the glasses around their neck! They are especially great for kids who like to take their glasses on and off or only need to wear them part time.
Children’s eyewear can be just as stylish as adult eyewear. If you’re looking for colours and styles that aren’t necessarily something you see in most children eyewear brand, Sons + Daughters may be the best fit! We carry mom favourites like pink and white but we also have many colours that are sophisticated and refined. Popular colours, not typical in children’s glasses, like tortoise, cheetah, black and clear are colours even you’d want to wear. Our styles like Clark and Harry were even covered in fashion magazines like Elle, InStyle, and Vogue! Check out our selection of sophisticated children’s eyeglasses!
